Introduction

Universities and research institutes face challenges to develop, support and encourage researchers and research leaders.

This forum will provide you with information and advice about the role of research coaching in creating a supportive management style for strengthening research workforce capability.

The forum will allow for discussion and will provide practical knowledge and ideas to improve research performance in your institutions and research organizations.

Aims
The forum will provide the opportunity for the research community to share experience and good practice about research coaching approaches, and aims to:

  • Provide a forum for learning of current research coaching practices;
  • Provide information and advice about what works well and what has not worked and why;
  • Explore the future role of research coaching in strengthening research workforce capability.

The following themes will be explored:

  • The changing nature of research, researchers and research workforce characteristics in Australia;
  • Australian research careers and research coaching - what is research coaching (compared with mentoring), what works and what doesn’t;
  • Research careers and what early career researchers need and want;
  • Mid career researcher support and development;
  • Research leadership;
  • Current coaching practices within the sector;
  •  International and other sector experiences with coaching for improved capability.
     

Who Should Attend?
The forum is for people who need to strengthen research, improve the research performance of researchers or research groups or are considering introducing targeted, systematic coaching programs to support heads of school and research leaders to strengthen research environments.

Academic staff: University and Research Institute research executives and leaders including DVCR, PVC (Research), ADR, Directors of Research, Graduate School Deans or Heads.

Professional staff: Human Resources Directors, Research Office Directors, Learning and Development and research education and development staff.
